Mel Karmazin, age 68, is the current Chief Executive Officer of Sirius XM Radio. When Karmazin's professional career began, he worked with Metromedia, an American media company that owned radio and television stations up until 1981 when he was asked to run Infinity Broadcasting. He served as Infinity's President and Chief Executive Officer from 1981 until Infinity became a subsidiary of Viacom in 2001. Karmazin then joined CBS in January of 1997 and became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CBS Radio through the merging of the companies Infinity Broadcasting and Westinghouse/CBS. He then became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CBS Station Group (Radio and Television, not just radio as was prior) in May 1997. Karmazin went on from there to become the President and Chief Operating Officer of CBS Corporation from April 1998 to January 1999, which led him to become the President and CEO of CBS Corporation from January 1999 through May 2000. After that, he was President and COO of Viacom Inc. from May 2000 until June 2004. It was in November of 2004 that he joined Sirius XM, which was just Sirius Radio at the time.
